LIULICHANG SHARDS
In 1991 I spent a year in China exploring the Song folk kiln, Liulichang, located just outside of Chengdu in Sichuan province. Before that trip I had usually decorated my pots by glaze effects or by employing Korean slip decorating techniques I learned in Korea. But since that trip to China, painting with oxides has become one of my favorite methods of decorating pottery. Below are some shards from the Liulichang kiln site and several photographs of complete pieces.
